Wagoneer Vs Grand Wagoneer: Whats The Difference?

Jeep has introduced a pair of new high-end SUVs to its line of vehicles in 2022. The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer instantly became two of the most impressive Jeep offerings when they were unveiled. Technically, this is a revival of the Wagonner model which had previously been discontinued in 1993. But the new models are so fresh, we might as well consider it a brand new line.
So what’s the difference between the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer? If you’re weighing your options between the two, this guide can help you decide.
Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer Details
At first glance, it can be difficult to spot the differences between the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. From the outside, only a few small cosmetic details stick out. Each model has the exact same dimensions (214.7-inches long, 83.6-inches wide, 75.6-inches tall). And both models have the same build: a flat roof with oval-shaped windows on an impressive body. The most noticeable differences are a more ornate grille and slightly larger wheels on the Grand Wagoneer. Both vehicles offer an appealing design, with the Grand Wagoneer being just a bit more, well, grand.
Interior
Passengers in both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer can enjoy their ride in similar comfort. Both SUVs offer identical cabin dimensions, with three rows of seating. Each of the two rear rows of seats can be folded to add more cargo space to either vehicle.
As is to be expected, the Grand Wagoneer’s cabin offers a bit more luxury than the standard Wagoneer. The first thing anyone will notice in a side-by-side comparison is the Grand Wagoneer’s touchscreen display. Jeep added an excellent digital display to the Grand Wagoneer that includes just about everything. A heads-up display cluster on the front dash, as well as infotainment and navigation displays in the center. Even the passenger seat comes equipped with its own infotainment touchscreen. The Wagoneer offers less screen space, but still offers a large infotainment screen and a digital dashboard display.
Other interior features like heated and power-adjustable seats are available in both the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models. The Grand Wagoneer also offers slightly enhanced climate control and audio systems for its passengers.
Performance
There are some slight performance differences between the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The Grand Wagoneer has a more powerful 6.4-liter V8 engine, compared to the Wagoneer’s 5.7-liter V8 engine. This results in much greater horsepower for the Grand Wagoneer, at 471, compared to the Wagoneer’s 392. The tradeoff here is greater towing and payload capacity for the Grand Wagoneer, but better fuel economy on the Wagoneer. The Grand Wagoneer gets just 13 miles per gallon in the city and 18 MPG on the highway. The Wagoneer, on the other hand, gets 16 city MPG and 22 highway MPG.
Additionally, all Grand Wagoneers are available only with all-wheel drive. Wagoneer drivers can choose between all-wheel and rear-wheel drive for their SUVs.
Trim Levels
Both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer come in multiple available trim levels. Each model has a Series I, II, and III available. The Grand Wagoneer also has an available Obsidian trim, which adds even more luxury than the other models.
